Legislatively Speaking …
By Robin Peoples Klau, Live Oak PTA VP Legislative Advocacy

SAVE the Date of Friday, March 23, 2012 to attend this year’s PTA Advocacy Day!  This year our SRV Council of PTAs Legislative Committee, along with Las Trampas Creek Council of PTAs is bringing PTA Advocacy Day to YOU!

For over 30 years, we have traveled to Sacramento to hear a panel of our Legislators bring us up to date on education legislation and funding.   PTA Advocacy Day 2012 will be held locally, at Crow Canyon Country Club. In addition to the panel of our Legislators, we will have a Keynote Speaker, box lunch and offer “Breakout Sessions” specializing in key legislative/education issues.   The highlight of the event is our Legislative panel featuring:

State Senator Mark DeSaulnier (7th Senate District)
Assemblymember Joan Buchanan (15th District Assembly)
Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (14th Assembly District)
Assemblymember Susan. Bonilla (11th Assembly District).

Registration details will be available on the SRV Council of PTAs website at PTA Legislative Advocacy Day - 2012

Additionally, if you have not had the opportunity to attend the School & Community Forums hosted by the Facility Bond Exploratory Committee, I encourage you to attend.  The remaining dates are:
Monte Vista High School – Thursday, February 2nd – 7pm
Dougherty Valley High School – Wednesday, February 9th – 7pm

These forums are a great way to stay informed and provide feedback. The forums are tailored to the comprehensive high school where they are being held and the “feeder” schools, that is the elementary and middle schools, that feed into that particular high school.  If you missed the event at your particular High School and you have something to share, you can attend any of the remaining dates. If you have any questions regarding PTA Legislative activities, feel free to contact me, Robin Klau, your Legislative Representative, at legadvocacy@liveoakpta.net.
