HSA and Student particpation Awards

There was so much joy in the air last night, as we felicitated those who’ve served the community. From someone who has spent a lifetime fostering local kids to another who served the school community for more than a decade. From a teacher who works tirelessly with special Ed kids to a mom who juggles several volunteering roles with a smile on her face. Live Oak PTA celebrates them all! As we wrap up the year, we look forward to many more years working hand in hand with those enhancing the quality of children and the larger community.
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week
May 6-10
The Teachers and Staff Appreciation week was a huge success and thank you to all the volunteers for your support and participation. Our superstar teachers and staff felt greatly appreciated by the week-long celebration that included a special breakfast, movie-time snacks, catered lunch (Chipotle), frozen Menchie’s treats, and delicious desserts, as well as the special activities, treats and gifts by our kids each day during the week.
Special mention to PTA volunteers Lili Shiau and Vidhi Modi for organizing the week long event for our staff!

Spring Run club
March-May 2024
2024 Spring run club ended last Wednesday. As we bid farewell to this fantastic running season, we want to celebrate the incredible achievements and camaraderie that have defined our time together. Throughout the season, our dedicated group of 12 runners collectively logged an impressive 36 miles over 9 weeks. Each step taken was a testament to the kid's commitment, perseverance, and passion for running.
We are especially proud to announce our leaderboard stars who truly went the extra mile. The hard work and dedication have inspired us all, and we applaud each one of the runners.
Come join the RUN CLUB crew in the Fall to log your laps, receive charms, compete and have fun with your fellow runners!!

Ms Keyes was our judge for this week. Here's what she had to say about the winning doodle " Between the adorable pup and the beautiful use of color, looking at this doodle puts a smile on my face. The artist put in lots of effort and the final result is an awesome piece of artwork. Great work!"

It was an amazing night of math! Kids had a very engaging and fun time along with story telling to learn math concepts with the WonderMath team.
K-3 students focused on modeling and interpreting division (w/2 and 3) as numbers of groups and sizes of groups. 4-5 students learnt area models, multiplication and division to show equivalence of fractions. Kids loved earning the gems as they solved the problems during the session!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Family Bowling event. It was a great event with a lot of fun and energy!
Huge thanks to our Family Bowling Chair Therese Kathka and her family who organized the various activities for kids- Tattoos, scavenger hunt, jokes, bowling bingo, photo booth - to enjoy along with bowling. Thanks to Daniel Bae for the photo printer equipment for the event. Thanks to all DVHS NHS volunteers as well as volunteer parents who pitched in to make this event a success! Fall Book Club wrapped up this week. Great job readers! Everyone did an AMAZING job reading, thinking, and discussing the books. Some enjoyed the books and others did not, but everyone tried 3 new books this Fall and had a great attitude. Keep reading!!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for their incredible generosity this holiday season. Thanks to your overwhelming support, we not only met but surpassed our goal of providing 450 toys to Michelle Obama Elementary School, our Sister School! This is a combined effort of both Live Oak and Cal High communities! We want to express our deepest appreciation to the Student Council, PTA, representatives from Cal High, and every member of our community whose dedication and hard work made this achievement possible. Your unwavering commitment has truly made a difference, and we are immensely grateful for your contributions. Many thanks to Perin Sabuwala for chairing this initiative. Community Dine Out

Our PTA team took this opportunity to break bread together with Mr Fong at Mendocino Farms to celebrate and bond. Thank you to all the Live Oak families who participated in the community night out. Keep an eye out for future community night outs, it’s a great way to meet other Live Oak families and get to know each other.

Thank you to our 17 artist participants in this year’s Live Oak Yearbook Cover Contest! They did a phenomenal job with their artwork.
We held two rounds of judging. The Live Oak PTA leadership team voted in round one and narrowed the field of seventeen down to six. We then invited a few Live Oak staff members to judge the final round. The judges were truly impressed with the art; all the kids should be proud of their work.

We had STEM night yesterday at Live Oak. The event was a great hit with the kids. A huge thanks to Mr Shui for coordinating this event with RAFT and to the high school volunteers for helping with the stations.

We had our second annual Trunk or Treat event at Live Oak last Friday, October 27th. A huge thanks to all of the families who decorated their car trunks: Chi Shui, Uyen Nguyen, Lynnette Gomez, Daphne Thomas-Mirr, Deidre Wright, Mirna Macias, Therese Kathka, Vivian Conyers, Cary Chan, Tamanika Dayalan, Carloe Bothwell, Savitha Palepu, Tariq Hussain, Russell Sysum, Amanda Maino, Kiran Hansrai, Madeep Kaur, Sri Sudha Pandrangi and Janyce Spencer.. It was a spooktacular event! Thank you to all of the families who also donated candies, donated non-candy items and to our amazing volunteers. We couldn’t have this event without all of you!

This year, we had a total of 83 registrants in different race categories. Many Congratulations to Casey Shafer for standing first place in the Male 40-44 Race Category for 5K!!!

Fall Book Club
Oct - Dec
The kids had a great time at our first session of Book Club this morning. Everyone participated and enjoyed breakfast. The groups had good, in-depth discussions about the characters and things they liked and disliked about the books. It was a great way for the children to see why it's important to read a variety of stories to help determine or find new interests.
Thank you to all the parent volunteers to who help led discussions and Ms. LeGate for helping with discussion questions and book discussions too!

Fall Family Movie Night

We had a successful movie night event last night. Both indoors and outdoor screening were a big hit with our families.
A big shout out to Ms Shui for helping us arrange audio/video equipment and staying with us through the entire evening. Thanks to our principal, Mr Fong for facilitating it all.

Ice Cream Social / PTA Association Meeting

OPEN TO ALL LIVE OAK FAMILIES
Thank you Live Oak families for joining us at the Ice Cream Social and Association Meeting yesterday. We had a great turn out with more than 150 friends joining. Our little friends loved trying the different varieties of Ice Cream sundaes. Our Principal Mr Fong’s live demonstration on “How the public school system works in the US” was an eye opener for many and kids received it very well too. Families were successful in forming DI teams across Kinder through 5th grade levels.
A special shout out to the PTA leadership team and volunteers for making this event a grand success.Looking forward to many more family engagement events.
